CHICAGO — A 5-year-old girl was seriously wounded when she accidentally shot herself in the abdomen in a West Side home Tuesday evening, police said.
The girl somehow got hold of a handgun inside the house in the 3700 block of West Ferdinand Street in East Garfield Park around 8:05 p.m., police said.
Her family took her to Rush University Medical Center, about four miles away. She was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition.
Relatives at the hospital declined to speak to reporters.
The girl was among 15 people shot between Tuesday morning and early Wednesday in Chicago, according to police.
