BODEGA BAY, Calif. — The father of a 4-year-old boy who survived a 230-foot fall from a seaside cliff in Bodega Bay says his child has awakened from an induced coma.

Daryl Johnson tells the Santa Rosa Press Democrat the boy opened his eyes Tuesday after lying unconscious for about a week at Children’s Hospital Oakland.

Johnson says his son Sebastian is unable to speak because of a broken jaw but he has shown signs of recovery, including listening to bedside stories from his mother.

The child was on a family outing on a trail at Bodega Head Nov. 10 when he fell from the cliff.

The boy was awake and crying by the time he was loaded into an ambulance and rushed to a hospital.
