TOPEKA, Kan. — Cardiopulmonary resuscitation likely saved the life of a man Wednesday afternoon after he blacked out while swimming in a private pool in the Lake Sherwood community.
Emergency personnel were dispatched about 4 p.m. to a location near S.W. 43rd and Aylesbury on a report of a possible drowning.
Shawnee County sheriff’s Deputy Jesse Julian said a 47-year-old man had been swimming underwater in a pool at a residence when he blacked out. He was pulled from the water and a person began CPR, Julian said. Mission Township firefighters quickly arrived, he said, and took over.
Julian said the man was conscious when he was taken by American Medical Response to a local hospital but was considered to be in serious condition. The man, whose name wasn’t released, later was upgraded at the hospital. Julian said the victim was “totally fine.”
