BATON ROUGE, La. — An ambulance service is activating extra staff and emergency units due to an unusually high number of calls sparked by the flu.
WBRZ reported that Acadian Ambulance Service broke a daily record because of the rise in flu-like symptoms, transporting 2,211 patients in one day, a greater number than is usually seen in disaster situations.
Acadian said they are using extra crews to respond to the large increase in calls.
Emergency room visits and admission levels are also much higher than normal, according to hospital officials. As a result, some scheduled, non-emergency transports are experiencing delays.
Acadian added that response times should not be affected by the increase in calls.
