LARIMORE, N.D. – A school bus returning students from school was struck by train, killing the 62-year-old driver and 17-year-old student, after failing to yield to an oncoming train.
A North Dakota Highway Patrol stated that the Larimore, N.D. public school bus, traveling northbound on a gravel road, was struck on the passenger side near the doors by a westbound BNSF train, reported WDAZ.
The highway patrol statement also said the driver and student were ejected from the school bus, sustaining fatal injuries.
Multiple passengers were injured, some seriously. Several hours after the incident, Altru hospital in Grand Forks, N.D., clarified previous reports. They had “received 10 patients related to today’s accident. Five patients have been admitted and three patients are being transferred out,” reported WDAZ.
The crash is still under investigation.
