SAN PABLO, Calif. — A grieving California family says it lost a loved one because a cash-strapped hospital refused to accept patients arriving by ambulance.
San Pablo’s Doctors Medical Center stopped its emergency ambulance service earlier this month in a desperate move to recover from an $18 million budget deficit.
That decision was a fatal one, one family claimed: Booker Williams died from cardiac arrest at another hospital because paramedics wouldn’t take him to Doctors Medical Center, which specializes in heart health.
