CLEVELAND — The city fired an EMS billing manager for lying about hours worked, mishandling claims and not handling claims, WJW reported recently.
Marietta Nelson, a project coordinator for the city’s finance department who handled EMS billing, lost her job on Sept. 7, records show.
An internal investigation that began in July determined that Nelson caused the city to fail an audit, and “approximately 800 claims dating back 4-5 months were placed on hold.”
Nelson also was accused of taking unauthorized or extended lunch breaks and arriving an hour or more late for work.
The investigation did not show the value of the EMS claims or how much money was collected, the news outlet reported.
Nelson did not respond to requests for comment.
