Phoenix dispatcher coaches man through delivering son

The dispatcher talked the man through delivering the newborn until first responders arrived

PHOENIX — Dispatchers remain on the line with 911 callers until responders arrive. But sometimes there’s no time to wait for responders, especially when a baby is on the way.

A dispatcher met the family and newborn she helped deliver this week. A man, named only as Marc, called 911 when his wife suddenly went into labor, reported FOX10.

“The operator, was a saint, a godsend, calmed us down, told us what to do,” Marc said. “A couple pushes and the baby came flying out right into my hands. I think from the first contraction to the time we came out was less than 15 minutes.”

The dispatcher, Julie, coached Marc through the delivery before responders arrived. The family only lives a few miles from the hospital.

“It was indescribable, it was exciting,” Julie said. “I was texting everyone I got to do this … it was wonderful.”

The newborn, Donovan, will remain in the hospital for a few more days with a feeding tube; he was born nearly four weeks early.
