MOBERLY, Mo. — A paramedic is facing multiple felonies after being accused of stealing medication from a patient and burglarizing another patient’s home the next day.
Moberly Monitor reported that Richelle Grapes, 44, faces two charges of burglary, assault, delivery of a controlled substance and stealing and possession of a controlled substance after two separate incidents.
Court documents said that Grapes transported an elderly woman to the hospital on Dec. 21. When the woman’s daughter returned to the home the next day, she found Grapes in the home and recognized her from the hospital transport.
Grapes said a medical alert had been received from the home. The daughter said Grapes also returned a spare key that was hidden in a container at the home before leaving.
Police said no life alert had been placed from the home. When they arrived at Grape’s home to investigate, they found a bottle of cough syrup that was not prescribed to her. Grapes allegedly said it was her friend’s prescription.
When the patient listed on the bottle was contacted, she said that Grapes had been at her home Dec. 21 on a medical call, but she had not given Grapes permission to take the prescription.
A filed complaint also said that Grapes injected the patient with fentanyl while at her home.
Police said Grapes admitted to the incidents and was suspended without pay from Randolph County Ambulance District.
