ORLANDO, Fla. — After a harrowing home invasion this week, an 11-year-old girl met the dispatcher who guided her through the situation and helped save her.
Ashley Bermudez was in her home when she saw an adult and two juveniles break into her home; she hid in the closet and called 911.
“I was just in the living room when I heard some constant knocking,” Ashley told WFTV. “They [the suspects] were trying to open my door, because I locked my door. I locked myself in my room.”
Dispatcher Michelle Fernandez kept Ashley on the line while officials used GPS coordinates to respond to the home. After the suspects kicked down Ashley’s door and saw her hiding, they fled the scene.
Police later found the suspects, Ramon Franklin, 18, Antonio Cason, 14, and Audi Gonzales, 16, and arrested them on burglary and grand theft charges.
Ashley met Fernandez Wednesday, whom she credits for keeping her safe.
“She was kind of a life saver to me because, well, I didn’t know what to do and it was very scary for me,” Ashley said.
Fernandez said the reunion of sorts was an emotional one.
“It’s very incredible. I always get to see the bad people, never the good people,” she said. “It’s a very good feeling.”
