LAREDO, Texas — The U.S. Border Patrol claims that an EMS worker and a “medical technician” were attempting to use an ambulance to smuggle migrants through a checkpoint, the Laredo Morning Times reported.

The man described as an EMS worker, Hugo Daniel Torres, was arrested on March 2, along with the other three people in the ambulance.

The person in the arrest affidavit described as a medical technician was unnamed.

The police report did not note the EMS employees’ certification or agency.

They were discovered with a man and a woman who were not legally allowed to be in the U.S. inside the ambulance. Torres claimed he did not know they were in the country illegally.
