The funeral for West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services director Mark King was overflowing with uniformed personnel of all types, from emergency medical technicians to firefighters.
Among the police, fire and ambulance escorts and the rainbow of different emergency services uniforms packing the Milton Middle School gym where services were held, it was an overwhelming display. But it was even more overwhelming when one realized the number of lives that each of these people, many of whom were under King’s tutelage, must have saved.
Whether they knew it or not, thousands, maybe millions, of people who have needed help throughout the years lost a friend on Wednesday when King died suddenly at the age of 53. ...
