This week, two Hollywood stars made the headlines for their “celebrity saves.” First, Dustin Hoffman alerted medics to a cardiac arrest victim in London’s Hyde Park. Then, it emerged Mila Kunis “rushed to the aid” of a man who had a seizure.

While the actions of famous figures in such cases often amount to little more than lending a hand until the real heroes arrive on the scene, it’s still nice to see them play a role, no matter how small.

The Hollywood “rescues” this week aren’t the first involving celebrities — here’s some others that made the headlines (though none made it onto Kelly Grayson’s Top 10 Celebrities Who’d Make Great or Interesting Medics...)

1. He might play a doctor on the television show Grey’s Anatomy, but Patrick Dempsey recently stepped in when, using a crowbar, a fire extinguisher and quick timing, he pulled a teenage boy to safety after a car accident. 2. Tom Cruise has a bit of a reputation for public service: not only did he help fund a detoxification program for 9/11 workers, he and his wife Katie Holmes waited with a couple who had just been in a car accident. They stayed with the victims until police and the fire department arrived on the scene, according to People. (AP Photo/Evan Agostini)

3. Zoe Saldana of Star Trek and Avatar also helped out a car accident victim. After witnessing the crash, she helped a scratched and bloodied victim to the curb on the side of the road before calling an ambulance. Saldana reportedly didn’t leave the woman’s side until after she had received the medical attention she needed. (AP Photo/Danny Moloshok)

4. Licensed pilot and actor Harrison Ford is known to swoop in to save the day with his helicopter. He used it to rescue two stranded hikers in Idaho after one fell ill, and also used it to airlift a Boy Scout when he became lost in Yellowstone National Park, as reported by ABC News. 5. Even members of the British royal family pay their dues. Prince William, a member of the Royal Air Force, saved a retired British judge who had suffered cardiac arrest during a hike. More recently, Prince William is reported to have saved two shipwrecked sailors from a stormy Irish Sea, according to CBS News. (AP Photo/Kirsty Wigglesworth/file)
