Off-duty N.Y. EMT was difference between life and death

By DON LEHMAN

STONY CREEK, N.Y. — If an off-duty emergency medical technician hadn’t been on hand when Ronald Cross Jr. was stabbed in the chest last week, Cross believes he would be dead.

John O’Neill, a member of the Stony Creek Rescue Squad, administered first aid to stop bleeding before an ambulance arrived, Cross recalled Monday from his bed in Glens Falls Hospital.

“The blood was just pouring out of me,” he said. “If it wasn’t for John O’Neill, I don’t know what would have happened. I’m lucky he was right there, or I would have bled to death.”
