NBC set for new show about SF paramedics

LOS ANGELES — NBC has picked up the San Francisco-based medical drama “Trauma.” The pilot episode, which includes a tanker truck explosion on Interstate 280, was shot here in March.

What’s not certain is whether future episodes will be filmed in the city.

In March, the Board of Supervisors amended legislation so that the “Trauma” pilot would be ineligible for higher rebates given to film productions. That reportedly angered NBC executives, who could ultimately decide to shoot the show in, say, Vancouver, British Columbia. The supervisors haven’t held a final vote on whether to extend that rebate program, so look forward to more fireworks when it comes up.

The mayor’s office, however, wasn’t having any of that Negative Nancy pessimism.

“We’re optimistic the production will be based here for run of the show,” said Newsom spokesman Nathan Ballard. “This is great news - it’s a $7 million boon to the local economy.”
