Mississippi legislators could fund a statewide emergency communication system to help the state better prepare for another Hurricane Katrina, local lawmakers say, provided they receive a heavy dose of federal money.
State Sen. Tom King, R-Petal, backed legislation last year that created the Mississippi Wireless Communication Commission - which is expected to seek proposals within 60 days on an emergency communications plan.
“Until we find out the costs, the Legislature can’t vote,” King said.
