MONTGOMERY, Ala. — An EMT struck by a car this morning has died as a result of her injuries while attempting to aid a victim of a car crash this morning on I-65.
According to Sgt. Steve Jarrett from the Alabama Department of Public Safety, Care Ambulance EMT Laura Elizabeth Pullam, 29, of Lowndesboro, was responding to two motor vehicle crashes near mile marker 161 at Hope Hull when she was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck.
Pullam was taken to Baptist South Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.
According to Sgt. Jarrett, preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the pickup truck, 42-year-old Montgomery resident Robert Allen Cumbie, was driving in excess of the speed limit and passing responding roadside emergency vehicles during the icy road conditions.
Cumbie was not injured.
