Three adults and a month-old boy suffered carbon monoxide poisoning in a Snellville home Friday morning.
All four were taken to area hospitals, the infant initially in critical condition, officials said.
Neighbors and co-workers identified the recently married couple living at the home as Edwin and Adrienne Kizito, with their 1-month-old boy, Edwin Kizito Jr. A woman visiting the home from out of state was not identified.
All four have recovered or are expected to recover.
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite reported the child in good condition Friday afternoon.
Both women were treated for symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and released from St. Joseph’s Hospital, staff said. The man remained in stable condition Friday afternoon at St. Joseph’s.
A silver BMW station wagon appears to have been left running in the garage at the home at 2730 Stony Place Court, a neighborhood close to Grayson.
The visitor arrived at the house from out of town sometime after 6 a.m., Snellville Police Chief Roy Whitehead said. The station wagon was running when the visitor arrived but she did not notice it immediately. She realized something was wrong and called 911 at 8:15 a.m. Her Florida rental car remained outside as police and emergency workers investigated.
When firefighters arrived, the garage was still warm from the running car, Gwinnett Fire Department spokesman Thomas Rutledge said. They found the Kizito couple conscious but not alert, he said. The infant was unconscious.
Carbon monoxide poisoning is usually a cold weather issue caused by faulty heaters, Rutledge said. Carbon monoxide can begin to affect the body at 30 to 35 parts per million, Rutledge said. People begin showing symptoms of poisoning at 100 parts per million, he added.
Rescuers testing rooms in the house found carbon monoxide as high as 600 parts per million.
The Kizitos were married this summer, said Cynthia Amiger, a broker at Ashley Realty Marketing and Adrienne Kizito’s employer.
