AUSTIN — The drivers of an ambulance and a pickup truck were killed this morning when the two vehicles collided on a rain-slick road near Austin.
Authorities said another paramedic in the Marble Falls ambulance was critically injured.
Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Tela Mange said the ambulance was returning to Marble Falls after taking a patient to Austin.
The pickup truck lost control on a curve on State Highway 71 near Bee Cave and struck the ambulance. The ambulance was not carrying a patient, the Austin American Statesman reported in a story on its Web site Tuesday.
Authorities identified the paramedic who died in the crash as 26-year-old Eric Hanson. The driver of the truck was identified as 36-year-old Troy McVey of Spicewood. He died at an Austin hospital.
A second paramedic, 29-year-old Kyla Wilson of Austin, was critically injured and remained at an Austin hospital.
