CHICAGO — Twelve children were injured Sunday when the sport utility vehicle they were riding in flipped over on the Eisenhower Expy.
The crash happened about 1:15 p.m. when the driver lost control of the Ford Explorer on the outbound Ike near Kostner Avenue, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quentin Curtis said.
“She [the driver] rolled up the embankment and flipped a couple of times,’' he said, adding that no other vehicle was involved.
The crash left 14 people hospitalized, including nine children who were seriously hurt. The other three children and two adults were in fair condition.
The driver is expected to be charged with child endangerment, as well as several seat-belt violations because there were so many children in the vehicle who were not properly restrained, said Trooper Juan Lopez of the State Police.
