Public safety agencies live to serve others in their time of need, and we don’t always take a step back to think about how we would react if the emergency involved our own service. Hopefully your agency will never have to implement them, but it is well worth it to review some of the takeaways from this tragedy by Michael Fraley before you need them.

PORT JERVIS, N.Y. — An ambulance struck and killed a Port Jervis firefighter as it was leaving to respond to a call on Sunday morning.
Officials believe Firefighter Nicholas McKeon, 22, was sleeping by the bay door when the ambulance hit him on its way out, Recordonline.com reports.
Fire department officials issued a statement on Facebook.
“The Officers and members of the PJFD would like to express our deepest sympathy and offer our prayers and thoughts to his family, fellow firefighters and friends,” the post read.
