ALTONA, N.Y. — The NY EMT who died in a crash while transporting a patient suffered a fatal heart, a coroner announced.
Eric Monty, 45, of the Mooers Volunteer Fire Department, was on his way to the hospital with a patient when he drove off the road and struck a drainage ditch and utility pole guide wire and drove up an embankment before stopping, according to the Press Republican.
Monty’s sister, also an EMT in the ambulance, was injured as well as another medic and the patient. All three are recovering at the hospital and are expected to survive. Monty was declared dead at the scene.
An autopsy confirmed that Monty had severe coronary heart disease which led to cardiac arrest.
