ONTARIO — An ambulance company employee was killed and his driver injured during a crash on the 10 Freeway on Sunday morning.
Douglas L. Odgers, 23 of Rialto was riding in the back of an ambulance at 6:05 a.m. traveling westbound on the 10 Freeway just east of Fourth Street when the ambulance collided with the guardrail.
The ambulance, driven by 25-year-old Jose Grelli Ugarte of Camarillo was traveling between 65 to 75 mph in the No. 2 lane in light traffic at the time of the crash, according to information from the California Highway Patrol.
Odgers was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident. Ugarte suffered moderate injuries during the crash and was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The reason for the crash is not immediately known. CHP investigators are looking into the cause of the incident.
