ALEXANDRIA, La. — MedExpress Ambulance Service Inc., a subsidiary of MedExpress Companies, has secured a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense to provide 10 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to the U.S. Army Dugway Proving Ground in Dugway, Utah. The contract is effective May 1, 2006.
The 800,000-acre DPG is a major biological and defense testing facility; testers determine the reliability and survivability of all types of military equipment in a chemical or biological environment. DPG is located in the Great Salk Lake Desert, about 85 miles southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah.
“The military, government civilians, and support contractors who work at DPG are some of our nation’s brightest, and we are all grateful for the tireless efforts they put forth every day to ensure our military and national security,” said MedExpress Companies President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Majors.
The Dugway facility is surrounded on three sides by mountain ranges and has a terrain that varies from level salt flats to scattered sand dunes and rugged mountains. “We are honored to be a part of this important work, and because MedExpress’ employees are experienced in challenging domestic and international environments, we are well-prepared to provide excellent service to the more than 1,300 people working at Dugway.”
Majors said MedExpress is providing eight EMT paramedics and two EMT basics, as required by the contract. The medics will provide continuous staffing of the on-site medical clinic, supplemented by basic industrial medical services and EMS services for the resident contract workers and military. The contract is for one year and will be evaluated for renewal for four additional years.
Dugway is the second federal contract for MedExpress Ambulance, which also provides emergency and non-emergency service to military personnel and their civilian dependents stationed at Fort Polk, the U.S. Army’s Louisiana-based Combat Training Center.
Headquartered in central Louisiana, MedExpress Companies owns and operates several health care-related entities, including MedExpress Ambulance Service Inc., Guardian Emergency Medical Services LLC, MedStaff Inc., CenLa Professional Development Center and Spectrum Products and Technology.
