CASCADE, Iowa — An ambulance rolled over early Tuesday morning near Cascade, sending two people to the hospital.
Jacob Schultz, 24, of Platteville, Wis., who was driving a Paramount Emergency Ambulance, and his passenger, Douglas Merkes, 25, of Dubuque, were transported to Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque with minor injuries. Both were treated and released.
There were no patients on board at the time of the crash.
According to authorities, Schultz was driving the ambulance on U.S. 151 around 2 a.m. when he fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to overturn and land on its roof. The accident report did not note which direction he was driving.
Paramount Emergency Ambulance is based in Dubuque.
Schultz was cited with failure to maintain control.
