At least 5 injured in ambulance rollover

The driver apparently lost control of the ambulance due to an unspecified medical condition

WATERFORD, Mich. — At least five people were injured after an ambulance lost control and rolled over on a Mich. highway Thursday morning.

The Elgin-Beaverdam Hose Co. ambulance was transporting a patient when the driver lost control, reportedly because of an unspecified medical condition, according to the Erie Times-News.

The ambulance started drifting off the road, ran into a ditch and rolled, stopping on its roof.

Former EMT Jennifer Powell-Thor, 42, was two cars behind the ambulance, witnessed the accident and rushed to help.

“I opened the door (of the ambulance), and it was chaos,” she said. “Another nurse and I jumped in to help. Your training just kicks in.”

The Erie Times-News reports that three other EMTs and a person accompanying the patient were also in the ambulance.

The conditions and identities of everyone involved in the accident are currently unknown.
