Miami, Fla. — Three people died and three were seriously injured in an early Sunday morning fiery head-on collision on Krome Avenue.

According to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez, an SUV and a small car collided at about 2 a.m. on Krome and Southwest 144th Street.

“The impact was so severe that both vehicles ignited and were fully engulfed in flames,” said Sanchez.

Two people were confirmed dead at the scene and four others were taken to area hospitals – two by air and two by ambulance. One of the passengers died at the hospital.

The condition of the other three survivors was unknown Sunday morning.

Sanchez said dental records will have to be used to identify the victims because they were so badly burned.

It was not clear who crossed the undivided highway.

“We are trying to determine who was at fault,” he said.
