OCEAN CITY, Md. — While his ambulance slogged through gridlocked traffic caused by the stuck-open Route 50 bridge, an Ocean City paramedic let two women walking on the road with alcohol hitch a ride on his ambulance, Ocean City officials say.
Officials said the paramedic - who was not named - has been disciplined, but did not say what the sanctions were.
According to an Aug. 5 memorandum from City Manager David Recor to members of the Ocean City Council, the incident happened July 26, when the draw span of the Harry W. Kelley Memorial Bridge malfunctioned, leaving the bridge stuck in the open position. It jammed up eastbound Route 50 traffic for miles, and wasn’t repaired until late evening.
