MILFORD, Mass. — A woman who authorities say ran a stop sign in Milford and crashed into an ambulance — triggering a rollover that killed a dialysis patient riding in back — will be charged with motor-vehicle homicide, prosecutors said.
Lisa Zemack, 61, of Framingham, will be summoned to court “at some point to be determined” on charges of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and operating to endanger, said Paul Jarvey, a spokesman for Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
Police say Zemack was driving a Mercedes-Benz sedan on Green Street in Milford about 11 a.m. yesterday when she ran through a stop sign and struck the rear passenger-side quarter panel of an ambulance traveling west on Route 140. The ambulance rolled over and landed on its wheels atop a guardrail.
The crash killed 58-year-old Karen Scott of Upton, who was being driven back to the nursing home where she lived in Northbridge. The state Medical Examiner’s office will determine her cause of death, and Milford police and state police continue to investigate the crash.
“We’re trying to figure out, why didn’t she see that stop sign?, Was it distracted driving?” said Milford police Sgt. John Stanchione. He said police plan to seek phone records from Zemack, who was also hospitalized.
A paramedic riding in the back of the ambulance suffered a large bruise on his leg but has been released from the hospital, Stanchione said
