Driver broadsides NY ambulance, 2 medics hurt

Both medics were treated and released, but the ambulance was removed from service

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — Saugerties police say a driver faces an assortment of charges after failing to stop at a stop sign and slamming into an ambulance.

According to police, a car driven by Matteo Zegarelli, 26, of Mahopac broadsided a Diaz company ambulance at the intersection of Warren Place and Finger Street, nearly rolling the ambulance over. The ambulance was not on an emergency run and there was no patient in the vehicle. Both paramedics were treated at Kingston Hospital and released.

Charges filed against Zegarelli include Reckless Driving, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle without License Plates and Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent.
