MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Paramedics were attempting to transport a woman to the hospital y when she stole the ambulance and careened into a yard before crashing into a tree.
WLOS.com reported the paramedics responded to a call to transport a psychiatric patient to a hospital. About 90 seconds after they arrived, the woman jumped into the ambulance and drove away.
The woman drove two miles before veering off the road and into a yard.
William Kelher, director of the McDowell Emergency Services, said his department will look for ways to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
“We’ve got to take this specific incident and dissect it from start to finish, and see what opportunities there are to improve security of our whole operation even further,” said Kelher.
No one was injured in the incident.
