HOUSTON — A driver rear-ended an ambulance, causing it to catch fire Saturday, the Houston Chronicle reported. As a Harris County deputy was slowing down to render aid, the deputy’s car was rear-ended by another vehicle.
Two EMS providers were in the ambulance when a Ford Focus moving at a high speed hit it from behind. The rig veered onto the shoulder of Interstate 45. On the shoulder, both vehicles burned.
The ambulance was not carrying any patients, and the providers were not injured.
The Ford driver was transported to a hospital, and the Harris County sheriff’s office said that person is under investigation for driving while intoxicated.
There were no serious injuries in the second crash.
