Ky. paramedic seriously hurt in ambulance crash

Police said the paramedic was treating a patient in the back of the ambulance and was unrestrained when the crash occurred

CYNTHIANA, Ky. — A paramedic was seriously injured Tuesday in an ambulance crash.

WKYT reported that the Harrison County EMS ambulance was transporting a patient when the EMS provider who was driving the rig crashed due to dense fog.

A female paramedic was treating the patient in the back of the ambulance at the time of the crash and was unrestrained. She was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

“The paramedic injured in last night’s ambulance crash in Harrison Co. has been admitted to UK Hospital with multiple broken ribs, a broken scapula, head lacs, right knee lac & a large left knee lac which was being examined by a surgeon. She remains in a lot of pain but her spirts remain high,” a Facebook post from Harrison County EMS said.

The EMS provider who was driving the ambulance was also transported to the hospital as a precaution. The patient did not suffer any additional injuries and was transported to the hospital by another crew.

The ambulance was totaled in the crash.
