LOUISA COUNTY, Va. — An ambulance that was rear-ended while attempting to leave a crash scene struck a pedestrian as a result, leaving him seriously injured.
WTVR reported that the ambulance responded to a crash scene with their emergency lights activated when the incident occurred, according to police.
“Due to a hill crest, the ambulance arrived on scene in the right lane,” a State Police spokesperson said. “The ambulance attempted to shift into the left lane with emergency lights sill activated. A 2013 Honda CR-V, driven by, Gerald Wolburg, 51, was traveling in the right lane and struck the ambulance in the rear, pushing the ambulance toward the left shoulder, and then striking Herbert Tyler III, 23, standing outside of his disabled vehicle.”
Tyler was transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, and Wolburg was transported for minor injuries.
Wolburg was charged with driving too close. The crash is currently under investigation.
