6 injured when vehicle collides with ambulance at intersection

Reports say the driver was weaving in and out of traffic, and failed to yield to the ambulance, which had lights and sirens on

PONTIAC, Mich. — Six people were injured when a driver of a Pontiac Grand Prix collided with an ambulance at an intersection around 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Star EMS ambulance had lights and sirens activated and was struck by the other vehicle, Mlive reports.

The medic driving the ambulance told deputies in the Oakland County Sheriff’s office that the driver of the Grand Prix kept switching lanes and cutting off other vehicles, and eventually collided with the ambulance, causing it to spin three times.

Witnesses also reported that the woman drove around stopped traffic and failed to yield to the approaching ambulance.

The driver of the Grand Prix disclosed she was on several prescribed medications, and agreed to a blood test. She was taken to a local hospital, along with a pregnant passenger, a patient being transported in the ambulance, a firefighter and two paramedics.

“It flattened tires and ruptured the gas tank,” Star EMS president Bill Grubb told The Oakland Press.
