2 Iowa EMS providers hurt in ambulance crash

Police said the ambulance was transporting a patient when it was struck by another vehicle

BETTENDORF, Iowa — Police are investigating an accident involving an ambulance around 11:06 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Middle Road and Parkway Drive.

According to police, a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo was westbound when it struck a Medic ambulance traveling eastbound. The ambulance did not have emergency equipment activated at the time of the accident.

The driver of the Chevrolet Aveo, a 24-year-old female from Moline, had to be extracted from her vehicle by responding emergency personnel. She was transported to Genesis East with serious injuries.

Also transported to Genesis East was a 3-old-child who was restrained in a safety seat at the time of the collision.

The Medic ambulance was occupied by three people: two Medic employees and one patient. The two Medic employees were transported to Genesis East for treatment. The patient was subsequently transported to Unity Point Hospital in Bettendorf.

Middle Road remained closed for approximately 50 minutes during the incident.

This accident remains under investigation by Bettendorf Police. The Bettendorf Fire Department, Medic Ambulance and Bettendorf Public Works assisted on scene.
