LANCASTER, Pa. — A two-vehicle crash in Caernarvon Township Wednesday killed a 23-year-old Ardmore woman and injured five others, including three children, according to officials.
Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni said the victim, identified as Syherah Cerdan, was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Karen Granzow.
An autopsy will be performed this morning, Diamantoni said.
An 11-year-old girl was reported in critical condition Wedensday night at Hershey Medical Center. A 4-year-old boy and a 3-month-old child were hospitalized with minor injuries, according to state police.
The accident happened just before 4 p.m. in front of 6757 Division Highway (Route 322), east of Shady Lane, and involved a sport utility vehicle and a car, according to Deputy Chief Dwayne Martin of Churchtown Fire Company.
Police said the children were riding in the car, a hatchback, which was driven by Joseph Wesley, 30, of Bryn Mawr.
Matthew McNamara, 45, of Springfield, was driving the SUV, police said.
One of the children was flown by a PennSTAR medical helicopter to Hershey Medical Center. The two adults were taken by ambulance to Lancaster General Hospital, while two children went to Reading Hospital, according to police.
Martin said the number of patients required “great coordination” between emergency personnel.
“It was a matter of getting a triage area set up, prioritizing patients and making sure we had enough medical personnel on the way,” he said.
Five ambulances, two of which were from Chester County, and three medics responded to the scene. Goodville Fire Company also assisted.
In addition to caring for the injured, Martin said rescue crews worked to free the hatchback’s driver, who was trapped in the vehicle.
Route 322 was closed from Shady Lane to Groff Road for several hours Wednesday night.
