MCMINN COUNTY, Ohio — Jim Hargus, pilot with the Air Evac Lifeteam base in McMinn County, recently celebrated his 1,000th flight with the company.
Hargus, who lives in North Georgia with his wife and two children, joined Air Evac Lifeteam in March 2002. Joining Air Evac Lifeteam, the largest independently owned and operated air ambulance service in the United States, was a natural fit for the longtime military veteran.
“I spent about 11 years in the U.S. Marine Corps,” Hargus said. “I started out as an air traffic controller and got into flight school after that. This is the only job I’ve had out of the military. I knew I wanted to continue flying. I like Air Evac’s mission — providing rapid access to definitive emergency health care for people in rural America — and that’s what we’re doing.”
Hargus recently moved to the area from Oklahoma. His program director, Whitney Miller, is excited to have him at the McMinn County base.
“Safety and having a positive impact on the patients and community he serves are what Jim is all about, and we are so proud of him,” Miller said.
Air Evac Lifeteam is a membership-supported air ambulance company that provides emergency care and rapid medical transport to rural communities throughout the central U.S.
