MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. — A firefighter-paramedic died Sunday shortly after his shift.
Wisconsin State Journal reported that Madison Fire Department firefighter Richard Garner collapsed suddenly shortly after his shift ended, according to a release from the department. No other details about his cause of death have been released.
Garner was a member of the department since 2012, and became a paramedic in 2017.
“Garner is recognized by his peers for his passion for the fire service, working with youth, giving back to the community on duty and off duty, and encouraging others to consider a career in firefighting,” department Spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said. “His large personality and contributions to the department will be greatly missed.”
