2 children, 1 woman killed in Denver shooting

The shooting appeared to have been isolated

The Associated Press

DENVER — Two children under 10 years old and a woman were killed, and a third child was wounded in an apparent shooting at a house in northeast Denver, police said Wednesday.

That child was in critical condition at Denver Health Medical Center.

The shooting appeared to have been isolated and there was no indication a shooter is on the loose, said police Major Crimes Cmdr. Ron Saunier.

"Is there a mass killer or someone running around? At this time we don't believe so," he said.

The neighborhood is in an industrial area, surrounded by warehouses and a trucking terminal, near the National Western Stock Show complex.

Neighbor Debbie Martinez said the house was recently remodeled, and she saw a family of five _ two adults and three children _ move in about six months ago.

"They seem like outgoing people. They didn't bother anybody," she said.

On a corner about a block from the scene, members of nearby Providence Bible Church gathered in a circle to prayer.

"Basically, we pray for the community," said Jose Rojas, pastor of the church.

"This is the horror of the whole country. There are all these shootings," he said. "I think it's too much, too much to see innocent people being killed."

The deaths came as the Colorado Legislature considered stricter gun laws and President Barack Obama tried to rally national support for a ban on assault weapons.

Jacob Bridgman Jacob Bridgman Wednesday, February 06, 2013 3:19:30 PM And once again Stricter gun laws do not prevent this type of incident. It only prevents those that wish to protect theirself from this type of event from doing so. Look at states and cities with the most strict gun laws they have the highest crime rates because the criminals know that there is very few people that would try to stop them since they cant own guns or don't feel like jumping through the hoops to own one. GUN BANS AND LAWS DOn't WORK and it violates the second amendment.

Tom Webster Tom Webster Wednesday, February 06, 2013 3:56:33 PM Has anyone stopped to think that the reason for all of these recent shootings, especially ones like this, is economy driven? People that are unstable, seem to tget hit the first when the econamy goes sour. I remember this happening in the economic crash back in the seventies... just a thought...
