Basic defense against cold weather

Contributed by: EMS1 Staff

During cold, wet winter weather, it's obviously important to stay as dry and warm as possible. Remember that the outer shell of protective clothing absorbs water and can freeze, while protective hoods absorb moisture including body perspiration.

Make sure to equip yourself with the proper PPE, depending on the situation and whether or not you anticipate being in or outdoors. In addition, extra gloves and water-repellant footwear with good traction can help you avoid field accidents in freezing conditions.
