Make advocacy your New Year's resolution

Contributed by: American Heart Association

It’s that time of year again when we all start brainstorming what New Year’s resolutions we will make for 2008. We have a great suggestion that will fit right in with the other top resolutions on your list. In addition to eating healthier, exercising more, and kicking those old habits, how about resolving to brush up on the issues you advocate so hard for throughout the year?

By brushing up on the issues, you’re making a commitment to yourself and to the American Heart Association, to learn more about how we can effect policy change for a healthier country. Whether it’s working toward smoke-free communities, increasing quality physical education in our schools, improving access to quality healthcare, establishing stroke systems of care, or increasing funding for critical prevention programs and research, we can all make a difference in the fight against cardiovascular disease. And knowledge is power!

Pick an issue that is closest to your heart, or review them all. It’s up to you! But we promise (cross our hearts!) that you can fulfill this resolution and scratch it off your 2008 ‘to-do’ list.
