Video technology guides Neb. responders to tornado victims
Real-time thermal imaging and GPS transmitted victim's locations to responders miles away from the center of storm
LINCOLN, Neb. — Minutes after two F-4 tornadoes ripped through Pilger, Nebraska, a state patrol helicopter was airborne, transmitting real-time video images a hundred miles away to the emergency operations center in Lincoln.
“When you are watching that in real time, it is a bit eerie,” said NEMA Assistant Director Bryan Tuma.
Tuma said it’s valuable information so they can quickly determine what kind of help is needed.
