BOCA RATON, Fla. — Boca Raton Fire Rescue Services is honoring Lt. Jamie Smith as Paramedic of the Year for 2008, the department announced Tuesday.

Smith helped save a 39-year-old man having a seizure at a fitness center on Jan. 26. Smith, who was off-duty, gave the man mouth-to-mouth respiration until rescuers arrived. The man later had heart surgery and recovered. Smith also got the award for his work in training new employees and organizing fire service competition.
