Girl killed, 2 injured crossing busy Calif. street

The woman's injuries are life-threatening and the surviving child is expected to live

The Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. —A young girl died and two other people were injured in San Francisco after they were hit by a car while crossing the street on New Year's Eve.

Officer Gordon Shyy says the three pedestrians — one woman and two children — were struck about 8 p.m. Tuesday in the city's Tenderloin neighborhood.

Shyy says the woman's injuries are life-threatening and that the surviving child, a boy, is expected to survive.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that police say drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors.
