1 killed, 2 injured in multi-vehicle accident

BEREA, Ky. — A Berea woman died following a multiple vehicle accident Monday morning on Boonesboro Road near Winchester.
Britta Richmond, 25, was pronounced dead at Clark Regional Medical Center from her injuries received in the crash, Capt. Paul Howard of the Clark County Sheriff's Office said.
Howard said Richmond was traveling north on Boonesboro Road around 7:40 a.m. Monday. When her Toyota Camry approached a southbound Chevrolet Cruze driven by 28-year-old Holly Britz of Nicholasville, one of the vehicles crossed the center line and the two vehicles collided, he said.
Both vehicles received severe damage, and came to rest on opposite sides of the highway. Both Richmond and Britz had to be cut out of their vehicles by city and county firefighters. Once freed, Britz was flown from the scene to the UNiversity of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. Richmond was transported to Clark Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
A third vehicle, driven by 56-year-old Edward Robles fo 675 Wades Mill Road, was also involved in the collision, Howard said. He was treated at Clark Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
A fourth driver, 42-year-old John Chaney of 299 Quisenberry Lane, was behind the accident, but was not involved in the collision, Howard said. Chaney went to the hospital by private vehicle with possible minor injuries.
That section of Boonesboro Road would be closed into the early afternoon, Perdue said, while deputies worked reconstruction on the accident.
Despite snowfall during the weekend, roads were mostly clear Monday morning and weather was likely not a cause for the accident, he said.
“It appears speed and driver inattention were the cause,” Clark COunty Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr. said, though the official cause has yet to be determined, and deputies are still in the preliminary stages on the investigation.
Firefighters from Clark County and Winchester Fire-EMS, two ambulance crews and one helicopter responded to the scene.
The accident is still under investigation by the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
