Man who shot at ambulance strikes plea deal

The Journal Gazette

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A Fort Wayne man has admitted to his role in a brazen ambulance shooting that left several people injured last fall. Traneilous Jackson, 24, pleaded guilty to slew of charges, including four counts of attempted murder, Monday in Allen Superior Court.

Jackson is accused of using a handgun to pepper a moving ambulance and a car trailing the emergency vehicle with bullets Sept. 9. The ambulance had been en route to a hospital carrying a man who had been stabbed at Piere’s nightclub earlier that morning. The man’s family was in the car trailing the ambulance.

As part of a plea agreement Allen County prosecutors are recommending Jackson be ordered to serve 60 years in prison. A judge will decide to accept or reject the plea deal at Jackson’s sentencing hearing at a later date.

Heather Scullin Heather Scullin Wednesday, January 30, 2013 9:51:26 AM Sick. Just totally sick. He shouldn't get a chance at a plee they need to do the time if they do the crime. I am an EMT myself and I wouldn't want him back out on the street to hurt someone else expecially another ambulance member when all we do is help people
Wayland Slater Wayland Slater Saturday, February 02, 2013 3:28:43 PM One thing I learned at a shooting scene with a large group of people. When people ask whether or not the patient is going to live or not, don't answer. Too many times a Medic will reassure the crowd that he/she will be fine then someone may come out of the crowd and finish the job, whether you or the police are in the way or not. I hope they will not accept a plea bargain. I don't know what they could offer for a reduced sentence, but attempted murder, assault with a firearm endangering EMS personel, and whatever they can think of doesn't deserve a reduced sentence.
