19-year-old dies in fall from Utah chairlift

Ski patrol workers arrived within 1 minute of fall to give first aid; victim was pronounced dead about 2 hours later

The Associated Press

PARK CITY, Utah — A 19-year-old University of Utah student has died after falling about 30 feet from a Park City ski resort's chairlift.

Canyons Ski Resort spokesman Steve Pastorino says the woman may have been suffering a medical episode when she fell from the High Meadow lift just before noon on Sunday.

He says ski patrol workers arrived within a one minute of the fall to give first aid. She was pronounced dead about two hours later.

Resort officials say the lift is on a slope used for beginners and has chairs with safety bars. Investigators aren't sure whether the woman was using the bar when she fell.

Her name has not yet been released.
