EMT Black, who was assigned to the Highland Indiana base, and his partner were assisting another ambulance crew who were transporting a patient home from St. Margaret Hospital in Hammond, Indiana.

Due to the size of the patient and difficulty in getting him inside his apartment, the second crew was summoned to assist, according to SupportingHeroes.org.

After the four EMTs got the patient inside, EMT Black suffered a fatal heart attack.

He was 54 years old and had served six years as an EMT. Black is survived by his wife Miavria, daughter Jackie, 11, and son Joe, 18.
