A nuclear device detonated near the White House would kill roughly 100,000 people and flatten downtown federal buildings, while the radioactive plume from the explosion would likely spread toward the Capitol, contaminating thousands more, panel members told a Senate committee yesterday.

Neonate with Refractory Hypoxemia
You are called to the emergency room of a community-based hospital 50 nautical miles away for a 3-day-old male in severe respiratory distress. His birth was a spontaneous, uncomplicated normal vaginal delivery.

His mother stated to the emergency room staff that her baby has had trouble ''latching on'' when breast feeding and that a ''bluish'' skin tone has not gone away. She decided to bring her baby in when it appeared that he was having increased trouble breathing ... Full Column

Do they check if protective safety goggles are available on the ambulance? Are uniforms, boots and bunker gear all clean and intact? As a victim of an injury in a same type of situation, I am an advocate of stiffer laws and fines for violators caught not slowing down or stopping for stopped emergency vehicles and inattentive drivers. I now suffer from permanent injuries as a result of a speeding and inattentive driver not seeing the accident I was working.

EMS1 Forums Post of the Week
"So I'm starting EMT school in the summer and going on to paramedic school at the same place. It's a specialty school for EMS training. Does the school that you go to weigh heavily when applying for jobs? Is a university program held in higher regard than a specialty school? Thanks for the help."
